Self-Reliance is one of the most important virtues required to be a true Warrior. A Warrior is a part of a team. Whether that team is your family, your friends, your co-workers, or your classmates, one thing is for sure: for a team to work together, they must be able to rely on each other. A team doesn’t function just because of the efforts of one person. Everyone has their own set of unique and special assets that they bring to the table. As a result, each person must be confident in their abilities, so that the other team members can count on them for important tasks. If you don’t trust in yourself, how can you ask others to trust in you?
One of the best ways to develop Self-Reliance is to recognize your responsibilities. Realize that other people ARE relying on you to do what you are supposed to do. Ask yourself daily if you are contributing to your team, or if you are so dependent on the other members that you are taking away from their progress. If you discover that you haven’t been contributing to the best of your ability, don’t let that get you down! Be proactive in searching for ways to help out. Talk you your family and see what it is they need you to do. Find out if there is any way that you can help out a friend. Ask your coworkers what they need from you in order to make things operate more smoothly.
The most important thing to remember is that once you make the choice become more Self-Reliant, that is a huge step. In fact, in doing this you are already relying on yourself to become a better Warrior! If you keep this in mind, then you will constantly be reminded that your abilities are important, and your decisions carry weight.
